Leeds fans can afford to smile, even in defeat!

Well, if there was ever a good time to lose, it was today. I posted last week that the game at Blackburn looked tricky, and so it proved; but happily for Leeds, on the same weekend when leaves on the line delayed the Leeds United McFeel Good Factor Express to the Premiership, Europe, Infinity and Beyond, QPR, Burnley, Watford and Forest all contrived to lose as well. So Leeds are down to seventh, but remain very much in touch with the promotion race.

And happily, Friar Brian knows exactly why Leeds lost. Showing a degree of perception that would have left previous boss Old Big Gob Warnock shaking his head in admiration, the Bald Professor declared, "The first goal today proved to be the most important." And honestly, it is difficult to take issue with such a keen assessment, other than to suggest a slight revision so it reads, "The ONLY goal today proved to be the most important."

Of course, it would have been a different story had Pugh taken his golden chance. Flack me, any one of Barney, McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble or Grubb would have buried that one!

Still, with so many of the rivals losing, Leeds needn't worry too much. True Reading, Leicester and Blackpool all recorded victories but it could have been so much worse. Mind you, should Derby draw or win against Wigan, Leeds will settle back into eighth, the very position I predicted they would finish the season in!

  1. Is there anyone with half a football brain that could give a reasonable explanation as to what varney has done in the last few week to give him a start, , absolute joke and whats even more worrying is that when hint is fit he will be back in the side, got to question bm desicion making and playin pugh is a joke white shud of never of gone oit n why isnt byram starting and diouf was arguably our best player last season and don't recall him getting a league apperance this season wtf

    2. Pugh has never done well for leeds and due to a shocking desicion to send white out has had to play when playing 3-5-2 pace on the widtt is important white as bags of these hes young and is still improving pugh however is the complete opposite, in my opinion if a player is fit enough to be on the bench he is fit enough to play

    3. Yes he has, tbh of you actually watch Leeds then you'll know that he did well when he first came then did nothing, then he got introduced back into the team against Charlton and did well that game.

    4. Charlton he did ok at charlton and wasnt too bad against boro apart from the goal been his fault he was awfull yday n if u think he is the kind of player that is good enough to be in a team apparently pushin for top 6 your diluded wud u not prefer to see white there instead of him and yes we were very succsesful when he had his last spell at leeds wernt we!! And I go week in week out to watch leeds however I strongly suspect you dont u gunna try tellin me varneys a good player now lol, this is the problem at the min we have way t many poor players in the squad and wer gunna struggle to get rid of them, were all entitled to our opinions but unfortunately for u yours is wrong :)

    5. I didn't say he was good enough i simply said he played well last few games, I also didn't say Varney was good I agree with you on that. I think you need to learn to read pal.

  3. Here's two things to remember
    1) There are 29 games left to play before your prediction means anything
    2) You predicted Leeds would finish between 8th and 10th so if you want to be listened to, at least tell the truth.

  4. HF - Never mind what's happening at Leeds Utd. The big story this weekend is the innovative approach to football that's emerging at West Ham. The footballing Einstein that is Sam Allardicci (clearly a deep thinker on all things football) has come up with a new tactic that may revolutionise the way all managers approach the game........ PLAY A STRIKER UP FRONT!!!.
And what effect did this have on the game? West Han won 3 - 0 and the canary that is HF starts to sing again, albeit about Leeds and not West Ham. So well done Sam and what next? Maybe play without a goalkeeper? who knows , but we all wait for the latest innovation from home of football
