How did Everton's Gibson stay on the pitch after his assault on Arsenal's Walcott?

Talk about as thick as a Swarbrick! How the hell did the idiot with the whistle decide to book Pienaar for a cynical body check, yet a matter of seconds earlier, decide not to book Gibson for an even more brutal and cynical professional assault?

The answer is, of course, that Gibson was already on a yellow and Swarbrick bottled the decision to show a red card. Dear God, Gibson's challenge could have merited a straight red, never mind a second yellow.

The decision was huge in the context of both this game and the push for Champions and Europa League qualification. Millions of pounds were at stake last night and Swarbick showed gross dereliction of duty and cowardice in the face of enemies to good football!

Swarbrick should be invited to explain his decision on television, detailing in what ways, exactly, Pienaar's challenge was more worthy of a yellow card than Gibson's. There's only one logical explanation, that Swarbrick is a fan of George Orwell and is of the opinion that "All animalistic challenges are equal but some animalistic challenges are more equal than others"!

  1. For goodness sake, Swarbrick was not swayed by the crowds baying, by Arsene Whingers nagging, by the Arsenal players rolling and writhing. The Arsenal player ran into Gibson making it seem worse than it was. And as for that guy who I no longer respect, Arteta, bleating for a red card. He can F Off, respect lost.

    1. You must have toffees in your eyes mate! It was deliberate, it was cynical, it was brutal. If that was a Carragher challenge on Pienaar you would be singing a very different tune!

    2. Truth is, we are more than used to Carragher, Gerrard, Suarez and co. fouling anyone in a blue shirt, and getting away with it every time. So stop moaning and get back to scrapping for a top four place which, like us, is the best that once mighty Arsenal can hope for theses days.

    3. Everton are a slightly upmarket Stoke.

    4. Lol, yes Hammersfan you keep scrapping for that fourth place (from the bottom)!

  4. Another Arsenal fan squealing at the big bad Everton players... perhaps if the Arsenal players didn't lie on the floor after EVERY challenge (although it's amazing how quick they get up when their team still has the ball)they might get more respect.. and when did the Emirates turn into Old Trafford ...? HANDBALL HANDBALL should be on a loop over the PA.... maybe Wenger wouldn't lose his voice then !

  5. Obviously you feel that you can only win a game if the other side are down to 10 men

  7. Grow up, what a bunch of whiners you lot have turned into, it was a good game of football, draw was a fair result, so don't blame the ref if your not good enough to get a result

  8. this has to be some kind of joke right? lets just forget the fact that gibson only got his first booking because the arsenal crowd and players were crying for it. always forget how big a bunch of crying babies arsenal are until we play them. man up bitches! i was embarressed for them last night

  9. I felt that the second offence was bookable (I am an Everton fan) but the first booking Gibson received was not. Firstly it was debatable if Gibson was most culpable and secondly Walcott's scream and role were theatrical.
Referees have a very hard task in modern football distinguishing between a real foul and a dive.
Everton were physical last night but generally Arsenal do themselves no favours treating every robust challenge - legal or otherwise - as a foul-

  10. Absolute joke of an article....Typical of whinging Arsene Wengers team...from the first whistle to the last all Arsenal players did was moan at the referee as per usual...however nobody seems to mention the constant fouling by Arsenal players (particularly Sagna) which went unpunished.....no yellow cards there then eh !! Arsenal players and supporters alike need to accept that they are no longer a team to be feared who just cannot handle the heat when the going gets tough and last night was nowhere near overly physical by any means...and as for that Wilshire who the hell does he think he is....moan moan moan all night long...perhaps if he'd concentrated on playing instead of whinging every 5 mins he might have had a decent game....most over rated player in the PREMIERSHIP if you ask me....Arsenal supporters (& Manager) are becoming very similar to their counterparts from Anfield who just won't accept that their glory days are now coming to an end.....you are no loner the force you once were....grow up and accept it !!

  11. Hammersfan- Kevin Nolan need I say more! and Great comments from Moyes

Everton boss David Moyes hailed the battling performance from his players at Arsenal and denied they were overly physical.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he believed that Darron Gibson should have been dismissed in the first half for two bookable offences following robust tackles on Theo Walcott and Ross Barkley was another player who incensed the home crowd with some tough tackling. Arsenal players did not help their own cause though by going down and rolling around on a regular basis and Moyes was unrepentant at the end. He said: "Do you mean when we were a little bit rough with the tackling? Up north we do that quite often. That's actually allowed in football. "We weren't going to come here and let Arsenal stroke the ball around and make 600 passes. He (Arsene) was upset. I just thought he was quite a lot. "I thought we made it a right good game. Everton got the crowd going. I've been at the Emirates and it's been quiet, but Everton got the crowd going. "Because you make tackles, not every one is a foul and not every one means you have to kick it out of play."

    1. Thats it, if in doubt use the ""Oop North, that's the way we do things"" BS defence. The test will come if Everton ever get into the Champions League. Then they will encounter referees from every other league in Europe. They have a common interpretation of the laws when it comes to roughhouse tactics. No doubt when Everton are drummed out in the qualifying game as per the only CL experience Moyes has so far in his entire managerial career, he will appeal to the press over here using the same rather outmoded defence. They will lap it up. Everton will not change. Nor will the outcome. Everton will continue to be as unsuccessful in Europe as they are domestically.
      Welcome to Groundhog Day.

    2. Blah blah blah what a bitter load of moaners you are, Just cos a team comes to compete you don't like it, get over it

  12. Hammersfan ... You absolute tool !! A straight red as you cockeneeees say jog on ... The first one wasn't even a foul let alone a card . Gibson won the ball fairly only that Walcott actions rolling around with a broken shoelace got him booked . The second one maybe was a card but only for obstruction . If you want to talk assault lets talk about Girrouds on Coleman when he slid through the back of him eh

  13. I actually thought the ref was very good. A very intense and difficult match to referee, but he handled it. And he definately showed good judgement not giving Gibson a second yellow, that would have ruined the game... yes it was a mistimed challenge, but it wasn't delibarate, and you couldn't even call it a tackle, he just got in Walcotts way.

  14. Moan Moan moan but nobody seems to have mentioned Sagna's blatant attempt at cheating....Midway thro the 2nd half he won a header against an on coming Everton player who's foot was slightly raised as Sagna stooped down to head the ball...The header was misplaced to an Everton player and Everton were breaking towards the Arsenal goal...at that point Sagna fell to the ground squealing and holding his hands to his face as if he'd been kicked in the face/head....the game was stopped due to an alledged head injury....However the TV replay clearly showed there was NO CONTACT WHATSOEVER between Sagna and the Everton player and as soon as the game was stopped Sagna got to his feet with no visible sign of an injury....the only reason he went to ground was to prevent Everton a scoring opportunity due to Arsenal being exposed by his poor header....CHEAT !!

  15. 10.33 spot on, I think Ross Barkley hoofed it out over their goal line (not sure why he didn't put it out for a throw) and then Sagna gets back on his feet...the rule is he should have been booked for trying to influence the referee. I can't remember a single Everton player feigning and injury or trying to get and Arse player booked. Gibbo clearly played the ball when he was booked and there were a number of other good challenges which the ref gave as fouls. ffs it is a contact sport!! also is the 'foul throw' law no longer valid? One bad example and Arse nearly went on to score. I am sure Arsenil Whinger wouldn't have moaned about the foul throw!! Well played Blues and we can get better, Piennar once again guiltu of too many misplaced passes (he was terrible against Wigan - oh yeah and their first goal was a foul on Howard, not given and changes the game!) Dand don't mention Carragher/Lescott!! swings and roundabouts...Arse get a corner v Norwhich that never was, then score when clearly offside...I'm sure Whinger didn't see those incidents!!
